Getting started with DDx is designed to be simple, flexible, and fully supported. Whether you’re integrating DDx into your curriculum for the first time or expanding access for a new cohort, this guide walks you through everything you need to know–from initial setup and student access to purchasing options, course assignment setup, and assessment tools. Our goal is to make implementation seamless so you can focus on what matters most: helping your learners build confidence in clinical reasoning.

How can my students access DDx?
Students can access DDx either through advanced institution enrollment or by purchasing access individually when prompted at sign-up. Once their account is created, they’ll click your course link within DDx to officially enroll. This grants them access to all course cases, which will become available according to the schedule set by the faculty. You can check out how to create your course here.

What do students see upon initial login if I haven’t assigned them cases via a course link yet?
Students who log in before being enrolled in a course will see six open-access cases. These introductory cases highlight DDx’s case structure, reasoning process, and feedback model. Once they join your course via the provided link, the full case set will appear and unlock based on your chosen release dates. Share this Student How-To Guide with your class to help them get started.

How can I use the student’s data in DDx?
DDx provides access to detailed student activity logs and reasoning artifacts, allowing you to see how learners progress through each case and how they build their differential diagnoses. You can download this data to give individualized feedback, track participation and performance, or include it as part of assessment documentation. Many instructors also use these insights to identify common reasoning gaps across the class or to share examples with colleagues during faculty development sessions.

How does student-led purchasing work?
We will provide a link for your program to share with students. Learners can then purchase access directly through the agreed-upon terms and immediately gain access upon registration.

How can I assess students in a higher-stakes environment?
For programs that need a more secure and structured assessment experience, DDx offers Test Mode—a controlled version of our standard cases designed for formal evaluation. In Test Mode, students complete cases under restricted conditions that prevent revisiting prior responses or accessing notes. This setup allows faculty to measure clinical reasoning and decision-making in a standardized way, making it ideal for summative assessments or OSCE-style evaluations. Read more about Test Mode here.

Can I request custom cases?
We’re always open to feedback and ideas for new cases. If you have a specific topic or scenario in mind, reach out to our Customer Success team.
